From major international productions to local production and festivals and new infrastructure, the state is set to become a global hub for screen production, highlighting WA’s creativity and innovation.

Screenwest is thrilled to announce production has commenced in the South West of Western Australia on the highly anticipated second season of critically acclaimed and multi-award-winning ABC series Mystery Road: Origin. The six-part drama produced by Bunya Productions, is the fourth Mystery Road series to be filmed in Western Australia, following seasons filmed in Kununurra/Wyndham, Broome and Kalgoorlie/Coolgardie.
Other productions currently filming in the South West of Western Australia include the third season of the award-winning series, The Twelve. The return of the production to WA following Season 2 is not just a creative triumph, but also an economic one, bringing in an expected $10 million to the local economy and creating hundreds of jobs for WA’s cast and production crews.
Supported by the WA Government through the WA Production Attraction Incentive, the return of the production to WA highlights the readiness of the state to invest in growing production levels and capability in the leadup to the opening of the new Perth Film Studios in 2026.
