Dormilona was established in 2012 by Josephine Perry & her young family. Jo studied winemaking via correspondence which gave her the chance of doing many vintages abroad. Spending the last seven years in Galicia, Spain before returning to Margaret River to start her own venture. This gave Jo the knowledge & experience of the old world vs new world way to handcraft wines. Which is how Dormilona is created.
Farming the Yungarra vineyard organically & nurturing the vines to produce fruit that is true to region, variety & site, allows Jo to produce wines with no interventions to bottle, expressing the purity of the grape.
Jo has won many awards for Dormilona & being an innovator of the region. Jo was the first in the region to import & use amphoras from Spain, Italy & Georgia. Jo also keeps wines on skins for extended periods of time, as well as creating amazing label artwork with her artist Sean Whelan. All the above features saw Jo recognised as the Young Gun of Wine award winner in 2013 & 2016.
