Danielle Fitzgerald

Danielle Fitzgerald is a documentary photographer, artist, and narrative disruptor based in Margaret River, Western Australia. With a background in social work and advocacy, her practice blends documentary photography, portraiture, and cultural commentary to challenge dominant narratives and centre underrepresented voices. Her long-form documentary project Venus 8 explores backstage ritual, labour, and identity, reframing representation within contemporary visual culture. Her work was recognised in the 2025 Australian Photographic Prize, where she received the Documentary Award and was named a Top 30 Documentary Photographer. She was also a finalist in the 2025 Galah Regional Photographic Prize for her image Rinse, and her work has been featured internationally in DAZED, UK. Danielle’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, she centres socially engaged projects that connect art and advocacy through stories rarely seen in the mainstream.
